From the many blockbuster hits that have graced us with their presence over the years, to romantic comedies and even teen movies, one thing has been certain. Along with the main character who keeps us interested in the film, there is another dynamic which is typically present in order to provide comic relief during downtime and “black moments,” otherwise referred to as the moments after smaller climactic scenes. The best friend is always there to say something humorous in order to help set the mood for the next scene.Want more? Click here/tag
In the movie “The Hangover,” the best friend dynamic was the selling point of the entire movie. While 3 supposed best friends go out to Vegas in order to have a giant bachelor party before one of them gets married, they end up playing off of one another to ensure that there wasn’t a quiet person in the theater from the beginning of the film to the very end. These best friends continue to get each other in trouble, leaving it to themselves to figure out how to escape it. This is a common theme in raunchy teen comedies.
There have even been parodies involving the concept of the “best friend dynamic.” Not Another Teen Movie was the perfect example of this. The entire movie revolved around playing into the stereotypes of teen movies. While the satirical voice in this film was obvious, it still serves the purpose of showing how important the best friend dynamic is for these movies.
